Learning Points from Jedidah Isler’s TED Talk on “How I Fell in Love with Quasars, Blazars and Our Incredible Universe”

A blazing quasar, or blazar in short. Just one of the many wonders in our amazing universe. Jedidah Isler, an astrophysicist, shares her love for these features in this TED talk.

So for those who are unaware (such as myself), blazars are jetted, earth-pointed, supermassive and hyperactive black holes. The jets propel energy at 99.99% the speed of light, and these are among the most efficient propellers of particles in our universe. Just compare these with our hadron collider for example.

I think it’s amazing that we can learn so much about our universe, but yet there seems to be so much that is still unknown. If we could reach type 2 on the kardeshev scale as a civilisation, then that would be really something. Until then, focus on type 1 without compromising the sustainability of Earth as a result.
