Was Thinking About Going on a Cruise, but now…

Just read a report that an average cruise ship gives out as much emission as a million cars.

Yes you heard it right, a million cars! A ship is like a mini country out at sea, but it doesn’t power off its engine because it is a floating hotel with lots of amenities and services.

To drive up profits, they use the cheapest and dirtiest oils to power their huge engines. And that adds to the problem.

Being a floating platform out in the ocean, they don’t have many alternatives they can use to power themselves up. So what’s the solution?

Don’t use ships? I heard that our transport tankers do much worse for pollution compared to cruise ships.

The way things are now, it seems the most optimal for each region to be fully self sufficient, minimising the need to transport goods and resources around. Ban all non essential travel, and the list goes on. You’ll find that with all these inconveniences, nothing gets done. Because why should I deprive myself of these luxuries when others don’t care?

And so the problem lives on, until it’s too late for us all to do anything.
