The Latest Climate Change Report – Doomsday?

The latest report on climate change was recently released by a group of international researchers who report to the United Nations. So where exactly are we headed?

If you study the chart above, we are on course to reach 2 degrees Celsius increase in global mean surface temperature over pre-industrial levels by 2050 if we do nothing of significance.

This translates to more hot days every year, and the hottest days in the year are likely to be 3 degrees Celsius higher. Eastern Asia and North America will see higher precipitation, with hurricanes and cyclones bringing in lots more rain. Global sea levels will rise by about 10cm, and we will lose almost all our coral reefs.

I’m skeptical countries are concerned enough to do something about it. For example, the U.S. has already announced that it will pull out of the Paris Agreements in 2020, which strives to curb global warming to less than 2 degrees Celsius. If the U.S. is taking steps like this, it is likely that other countries will follow suit. The mindset seems to be like, yea, we know things are bad, so let’s do something about it together when it finally comes. Pity they don’t realise that the problem is not something that can be stopped or reversed in one day. The global climate will take many years to correct itself, and many of it’s effects are irreversible.

So, sad to say, earth is heading into the pits. Doubt there’ll be many future generations to come, and it’s all our fault.
